This took two minutes to fix. I waited three years.
When we launched Receipt AI three years ago, I asked a few friends to try it.
During onboarding, users had to enter their phone number.
For US and Canadian numbers, they had to manually type +1.
My friend Henry looked at it and said,
“You should let people choose the country code instead of making them type it.”
He was right.
I knew he was right.
I just didn’t fix it. It didn’t seem important enough.
Then customers started getting stuck when they didn’t enter +1.
Eventually, I fixed it.
Looking at it now, it’s hard to imagine why we ever did it any other way.
To me, it was a small detail.
But to the users who got stuck, it was the whole experience.
Before: users had to type the country code manually.
After: users can choose the country code instead.
